SEXUALITY ABUSED

Eight years ago as an undergraduate, a lady in my institution of learning told me of how their home was attacked by armed robbers. They robbed them of their belongings at gunpoint. However they did not stop there. They went ahead and raped her, robbing her also of her virginity. I was enraged within me against such heinous act by those men. Who gave them the right to abuse a lady, who was keen at keeping her virginity for her would-be husband? Why would someone do such a thing? It is wicked.

About a week ago I heard about a similar case at a private hostel off a university campus. The robbers raided the area, robbed students of their belongings and raped some. The pitiful story was that a female student was shot because she did not allow them to rape her. She later died. It was unbelievably true and I wondered why someone should kill another for not allowing him to rape her. It is unthinkable that people defy mutuality to have someone’s sexuality and because the person refused, she got shot and actually killed.

Rape is an abuse of one’s sexuality. It is a sordid act which perpetrators should be severely punished. The first indication about those who rape others is poor value for decency. Decency has to do with the quality of being polite and respectable. They lack respect for the people they abuse. They do not also have respect for human sexuality. Every individual has right over their sexuality until they legally marry, then the right is shared between them and their spouse. Now within marriage, there should be mutual consent each time before sexual intercourse takes place. If a spouse is not willing, the other should not force themselves on them.

I actually view rape to be any sexual act carried on without the full consent of the second party. Either it is in marriage or outside marriage. Just think of it this way, something belongs to both of us, but it is in your safe custody. One day you have need of it, instead of informing you so that you get the key, open the store and give it to me; I forcibly break the door, rush in and take it leaving the door unlocked afterwards. How would you feel when you realize what I have done? That is the way I view sex without consent within marriage. Yes you have a right to it, but I should be willing to give it and agree to your request before it takes place.

Those who rape people lack self control. Ability to control self is a mark of personal discipline and personal leadership. This should be true for those who do this to their spouse. A man or woman should know how to get their spouse for sexual relations per time. If someone is consistently refusing to engage in sexual relations, the other spouse should respectfully find out what the issues are and resolve them. Not being able to resolve issues between spouses in the bedroom is an issue on its own.

For those who take advantage of ladies that are not married to them, it is enough wrong acts to engage in sexual relations with someone not legally married to you, to now do it forcibly is simply outrageous. Must you have sex with that lady? At the point of entering her forcibly, did you still enjoy the act or you merely sought to inflict pain on her? If you have gone out of your mind, why not visit the brothel and take those who have chosen to make selling their bodies a profession?

Another group is the old men who use their fingers on minors. This is an abomination. They lure them in certain ways and use their fingers to defile them. I cannot possibly imagine what goes on in the mind of those old people who find ‘pleasure’ in defiling children old enough to be their grand children. They do not respect the sexuality of those young people. They simply lack moral ethics and may also claim to be under the influence of the devil.

Rape in any form it happens is an abuse of human sexuality and a display of human’s inhumanity to fellow human. There should be a proper enforcement of legislations against rape and the punishment should be punitive enough to check the crime. Victims and their families should not just hide the issue in the name of protecting the victim. What happens is that the more people see that rape offenders do not get punished the more they indulge in it. If an armed robber is confirmed to have raped while in robbery operation, he should be charged separately for both crimes and punished so.
